AI governance services for Canadian companies building or buying AI

No privacy retainer required. LegallyYours inventories the AI your company runs, classifies its risk and puts the policies and oversight in place, starting with a fixed-fee assessment delivered in two weeks.

What is AI governance?

AI governance is the system that decides which AI your company may use, for what, with what checks. It covers an inventory of every AI tool and feature in play, a risk classification for each one, rules for staff use, and a review process that catches problems before new AI ships, not after.

Canada has no single AI law yet, but that does not mean no rules. Privacy law already governs the personal data your AI processes, human rights and sector rules apply to automated decisions, the EU AI Act reaches Canadian companies selling into Europe, and enterprise customers already ask hard AI questions in procurement and security reviews. Governance is how you answer them with evidence instead of scrambling.

This service stands on its own. It is built for companies whose privacy side is already covered by their own DPO or counsel, and for companies that do not need a privacy officer at all, but whose AI use has outgrown informal decisions.

What the service covers

  • AI system inventory: every AI tool and feature you build, buy or embed

  • EU AI Act risk classification for each system

  • Gap analysis against your current obligations

  • Prioritized remediation roadmap

  • AI use policy for your team, created and kept current

  • Risk assessments for new AI features before they launch

  • Training data and model documentation guidance

  • Quarterly AI governance review

  • Regulatory update briefings on the EU AI Act and Canadian developments

Need privacy leadership too?

If your company also needs a designated privacy officer, our fractional DPO service covers PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25, and the top DPO Scale plan includes an AI governance module. The two services also bundle together below.

Common questions

How much does AI governance cost in Canada?

LegallyYours offers a fixed-fee AI Governance Assessment for $5,000, delivered in two weeks, and an ongoing AI Governance Retainer at $2,500 per month. The assessment is free when you start a DPO Growth or DPO Scale retainer (3-month minimum).

Canada has no AI law. Why do we need AI governance now?

Because the obligations arrive through other doors. Privacy law governs the personal data your AI collects and uses, human rights and sector rules cover automated decisions that affect people, the EU AI Act applies to Canadian companies whose AI reaches Europe, and your biggest customers already screen vendors on AI risk. Governance now is far cheaper than retrofitting after a customer, regulator or incident forces the question.

We already have a DPO or privacy counsel. Can we still use this?

Yes. This service is AI governance only, designed to sit alongside your existing privacy cover. No DPO retainer is required, and we work with your privacy lead rather than duplicating them.

What does the assessment actually deliver?

A complete inventory of the AI you build, buy or embed, a risk classification for each system under the EU AI Act, a gap analysis against the obligations that already apply to you, and a prioritized roadmap for closing the gaps, walked through with you on an executive readout call. It is delivered within two weeks.

How quickly can we start?

Most assessments are scheduled within one to two weeks. Because the assessment produces your AI inventory and risk map, it also works as the natural first step into the ongoing retainer if you choose it.
